La Mata Park Volunteers

Welcome to the Volunteers Group of La Mata Nature Reserve!
The Parque Natural de la Mata y Torrevieja is situated on the N332 to the north of Torrevieja. Click on the link below to view a map.
We are actively seeking new volunteers to help with important projects and initiatives at the park, in cooperation with park personnel. Spanish and/or German speakers are particularly welcome, but this isn't essential.

What we do

We meet once a month at 10.00 on the first Saturday of every month (high summer excepted) at the Casa Forestal (the Park Office).
We assist park staff in projects - currently the 'Alien Invasion' project to eliminate and replace invasive species. Watch this space for more news!
We patrol the park and inform the permanent staff of problems such as litter, people wandering off the marked trails, picking grapes from the vines, or taking plants from the park land. The biggest problem is dogs running off the lead, inadvertently destroying nesting areas and scaring away birds and other wildlife.
We meet to go bird watching from time to time. The park is a resting place for migratory birds and at certain times of year you can see flamingoes, as well as many other varieties.
We meet for botanical walks.
We meet for social walks, outings and visits to other Parque Naturals on a regular basis.
We enjoy social occasions such as BBQs and meals out.
We have parties!
